10 PRACTICAL WAYS TO DEAL WITH STRESS

I recently experienced a situation that reminded of how much I don't handle stress well. I then read this post  on how our emotions affect our immune system. It was quite enlightening and scary. Somehow, I remembered writing a post about stress sometime back for a magazine in my school. I decided to fish it out, read and then modify (lots of modification actually) and post on the blog. So, let's talk about practical ways to manage stress while I insert these pictures of myself I've been hoarding. From waking up to the sound your alarm clock has made you to despise to getting dressed for work/school to hustling to make it early so as to beat traffic to trying hard to stay awake while at it to putting in energy to being productive during the day, the cycle of activities that can cause stress for the average Nigerian seems endless. Needless to say following the same cycle for about 5 or 7 days a week becomes mundane. This isn't limited to physical stress alone; ...

2018: The Year That Was

As I begin to type this on my phone's notepad, I'm not sure what direction this post would be taking but I know I want to briefly document about how my year went and maybe, hopes for the new year. I'm doing this majorly because it would serve as a reference and reminder for me in times to come. These pictures because I feel the need to put them everywhere for posterity.  2018 was that year. I feels like I legit lived through 5 other years in this year. I don't remember having any specific intentions/resolutions at the start of this year. Actually, I think I simply viewed it as just another day. Of course, I had new things I wanted to try out and I did start with them but other than those, nothing much. And because I was tired of just going over some unpleasant experiences I had this year, I decided to write about them and I found that while writing them, it became easier to actually count blessings and make intentional choices that would let me have a better ne...

5 (+1) Practical Ways to Deal with a Jet Lag

For some reason, I can remember the very first time I came across the term 'jet lag'. It was in the pages of a book and it stuck because the main character made her business thrive by making sure her prospective overseas business partners did not have a chance to get over their jetlag before she hit them with all her ideas and so they were often too tired to counter her words and say no to her. This 'strategy' actually worked for her all time, no way it wouldn't have stuck.  Apparently, jet lag occurs with rapid travel across time zones, resulting in a disruption between the timing of body’s "internal clock" (circadian rhythms) and that of the external physical environment. Basically, it is some sort of temporary sleep disorder that occurs after a long flight. Often characterized by confusion, lack of awareness, fatigue, insomnia, indigestion and loss of appetite, it is no surprise that the author of that book figured it would make a good natural tool to...

A Mini Life Update

There's no such thing as a perfect comeback post especially when the comeback is not a thorough one. I mean, there would still be a couple of other comeback posts so why does this one have to be perfect? I've been thinking more about my blog these past few days because of two reasons which isn't a surprise if I'm being logical. I mean, the hosting company I use has started with the heartbreaking emails intended to notify me of the upcoming renewal of my blog's domain. This equals a saddening debit alert and there's no way, absolutely no way that won't make me think about how much I have abandoned and neglected this webspace of mine and wonder if I should just cancel the renewal. Just because. The second reason is that I'm finally on school break and so I have a little more time on my hands. This means I've been feeling guilty a lot more for not spending my free time on my blog and also thinking about life after school a lot more. My last post here ...

A Literary Conversation|APRIL

It lowkey sucks that the only thing I'm consistent with on the blog now is the monthly literary conversation. I'm however trying hard to not dwell too much on this sad fact. Anyway, happy new month to you! April was a fun month. I was really hoping for a better month because like I said HERE , March wasn't all that good. Well, I guess I got that. On the school front, I finally resumed after about 8 months of being away from school because of my 6 months industrial training. I'm in my final year now and I'm mentally trying to prepare for all of the inevitable stress and working on how I won't let myself be overwhelmed. You should already guess that resuming means I have less time to spend on my reading but I still read almost all of it. 1. Stay With Me - Ayobami Adebayo If you follow me on Instagram ( Right here ) , then you would have seen me put up a picture of this book and a picture of this book and myself. I think I talked about it so much that ...

A Literary Conversation|MARCH

Unlike in  February  when I had a theme of books to read, in March, I did not. I just randomly compiled books I assumed I would enjoy and I enjoyed all 4. RELATED:  A Literary Conversation | FEBRUARY 1. THE KITE RUNNER  - Khaled Hosseini This book guys, would swallow you up. It's actually a very sad book and I expected this because I've read a book by the same author where I almost shed tears but this blew my imaginations. You know, at some point I just stopped mid sentence and wondered for the umpteenth time how one person could be so talented and make so many emotions come up with words! I actually felt like I've never read before. Lol. PLOT: This book was set in Afghanistan and the protagonist is Amir who lost his mother immediately after she gave birth to him and who throughout his childhood tried hard to win his father's love while also having fun with his best friend, Hassan who is also the son of his father's servant. Amir watches Hassan being bul...

Life Update: 2018 Birthday Post

I was unsure about the idea of writing a birthday post this year because it's not very timely till I checked the posts of the last 2 years - 2016  and 2017 - and I realized they both went up on the 17th of March, 3 days after my birthday so why not continue the trend? Unlike the previous years, this was quite uneventful as I was in transit for some time, traveling to school to get stuff submitted and then rounding everything off pretty late so that I was unable to travel back home that same day. I had no extra clothing or toiletries so that was annoying but I pulled through nevertheless. I have a ritual of getting myself something but so far, I've not really seen what I'm interested in. A God sent person got me a book I've been looking to get my hands on for quite some time now and I was too happyyy! I'm definitely going to update this post with pictures of it later on. I'm really excited and looking forward to all what God has in store for me thi...
