BirthDay!

_Define Birthday? "The one and only day in your life when you were crying and your mother was laughing"_. Seriously? Lol. I don't agree totally but I just felt like sharing.

This week went by really fast. I can't believe it's Thursday already. It was my birthday on Monday and while I'm exceptionally grateful to God for bringing me this far and for keeping me, I'm not in a birthday mood. This is not even about outgrowing the special birthday feeling because I'm still a small girl. Yay! to that.
I was chatting with my friend Dami last week and she asked the usual question "Where's the turn up at?" I told her there wasn't going to be any turn up and that I was just going to attend my class for the day, go home and then stay indoors for the rest of the day even though my plans changed later on. I then whined about it being a boring life and my babe was like it's a stress free life not a boring one. Funny as it may sound, it made me feel better. Thanks Sugar.
Thinking back to last year, I'm ruminating on the changes that have taken place in my life and while some make me smile, some just give me a straight face but it's all in the past and all that matters is learning and relearning from them.
We've all heard the 'count your blessings' line. I particularly have heard it countless times but I didn't realise until recently that I had never carried out the act. I was musing sometime and I realised how much I needed to count my blessings and dwell on the positive and good things rather than moan and beat myself up over certain things that didn't turn out right. I hope to do that more and make it part of my daily routine. If you're reading this, you should do so too.
So, how did my birthday go? I had to go through my gallery and peek at the pictures I took before going on.
I rushed through the mundane early morning routine so as to make it to school early for my 8am lecture because I woke up quite late. After the class, I went home to 'chill' like I already planned to do. There's a project I planned to execute but I couldn't because insufficient funds. I'm comforting myself with the thought 'There's a time for everything'.
Sometime around late noon, I decided to go out with one of my friends. I'm an indoor person so I wasn't all that freaked about going out and the traffic jam didn't help matters but we went still. Those of you staying in Lagos, how do you cope please?

When you're in a not too good situation but with the right person, you end up enjoying every moment and forget about your preferences. So, I got in the mood and enjoyed every bit of the outing. I had to actually because I owe myself one. I can't be going through all this Monday to Friday same old routine and not treat myself to something different on my birthday.
Speaking of treat! I mentioned here that I have a sweet tooth. I've been craving ice cream and cupcakes for a while and even though I kept telling myself I'd go and get it, I never did. No other day would have been more appropriate so I had a dessert of_ice cream and red velvet cake_.

I was in a fix on what to wear because like I stated already, I wasn't feeling too excited about the whole birthday thingy. It's not a rule but I think most people have been stereotyped into believing you should wear a gown on your birthday (I might be one of them). I was looking for something simple that would say 'It's Monday, I'm ready for work' and also 'Hey, it's my birthday' I eventually settled for a black top, blue jeans and a slip-on because no matter how fashion oriented I think I am not, I know you can never go wrong with a black top and blue jean.
My extras were a long dangling chain and a tiny one. Oh, I forgot to mention a smile.
Ignore the wiidee smile.
I didn't even draw my brows not like it's compulsory to do so but you should just look different on your birthday (Another stereotype huh) which is why I opted for a red lipstick and not the everyday purple. I had my natural hair on too. I planned to do something to it at the hairdressers' but rain fell and we all know what happens to power supply when there's rainfall in Nigeria so I just had to style it some way.

It's my first birthday as a 'blogger' and while things are not how I envisaged it would be, I know it'll only get better and I'll someday write about it.
All in all, it was a great day and I'm thankful for all the wonderful people in my life. Here's to a better 365 days for me, long life and God's blessings . xxx.
Love and Care.
LLB.

A Literary Conversation | JANUARY

I love and enjoy reading and this year, I decided to read with more intent. Much more than the knowledge gained, the vocabulary that becomes expanded and the numerous places I travel to from reading books, I decided to actually journal about my reading activities this year and also write out lessons learnt from each book.

I read at a pace of one book a week so that should be about 4 books a month except when a book has too many pages and I have to go through it in two weeks. I actually belong to a book club but because I already had a book I wanted to start the year with, I couldn't follow the reading schedule from the onset of the month so I decided to just freestyle it for the month of January. The books I read are

1. You Have A Brain - Dr Ben Carson
2. Adored - Tilly Bagshawe
3. Small Great Things - Jodi Picoult
4. The Great Gatsby - - F. Scott Fitzgerald
To Kill A Mockingbird  - Harper Lee
    The Tumour - John Grisham

A Literary Conversation | FEBRUARY

Don't you just love how February flew by quickly? I definitely do and it came with lots of fun and of course, reading.. It feels just like yesterday when I published this POST  on the books I read in January and now it's time to write about the ones in February.
As there's only 28 days in February, I actually thought I'd be able to complete only 3 books but I'm typing this on the 26th day and I was able to go through 5 books! It however isn't in the numbers but in how each book eventually makes one a better person.

Enough digression, I initially planned to read mature romance novels because month of love but after the way the first book I read made me feel, I changed course immediately and went on to read other genres touching topics ranging from racism, colonialism to holocaust stories to a young adult medical fiction and even a children's storybook!

4 Cliché (Not so Cliché) Lessons From A Short Trip.

I have a love hate relationship with a lot of things and situations such as with skirts as I wrote about in this POST. I have a love hate relationship with traveling. I absolutely love to see new places, learn new things and all that but I hate the long distance that has to be traveled as a time always comes during every journey that I get claustrophobic and then there's always one or two accident scenes on the road. It's not always pretty. You'd probably think I'm talking about a 7 hours journey but No. Laugh all you want but a 3hours with almost 30 minutes journey inspired this post while I was looking out of the window at nothing in particular. I realized some lessons the journey thought me and though cliché, I thought to share it still on the blog as this act would make the lessons stick and also to reach out to someone who might need this.
