My NYSC Orientation Camp Experience in Lagos State

For someone who spent hours reading about the camp experience of other people, it would be super selfish of me not to pay it forward. There was literally no way I wouldn't write this post and so, here I am, doing just that. I'd try to keep it simple though, not like there's much to talk about. For those who aren't familiar with NYSC, here's how it works. After graduating from a tertiary institution, Nigerian youths have to undergo this compulsory 'National Youth Service Corps' for one year. The scheme is in 4 phases and is kicked off by the 21 days orientation camp in whatever state you get posted to. Let me start by saying getting posted to Lagos was nothing short of a miracle. One minute I was mentally planning a diet suitable for a very long distance travel and reducing my load and the next minute, all was fine with the world. Going into full details would be TMI but I'd be happy to share if anyone asks. Remember I said I read many people's...

Of Dreams That Come True...

I didn't think I would be writing this so soon. I assumed I'd wait till later this year to write this post but one sleepless night changed my mind. I reminded myself that the best time to do almost anything is NOW. So, here goes nothing. Scratch that, here goes SOMETHING I AM A GRADUATE! A FIRST CLASS GRADUATE! I still have to remind myself occasionally that no, it's not just a semester result. It is the accumulation of all my GPs and CGPAs. It's surreal. And yes, it is a dream come true. Not a big deal these days but it feels good achieving what I had been working on. If you think I seem shocked and surprised, then trust me, I am. Why? So many reasons but the single most important one is that graduating with a first class is something I only started working towards in my final year Weird, I know. I thought so too but I did what I had to and I'm super grateful that God made it happen. If you're already wondering why I only started working towards it ...

The Packing Series: Clothes And Everything in between..

I'm here picturing myself on the receiving end of this content and wondering if I would prefer it as a written or visual content. I'm tilting towards visual but nevertheless, I'm still putting together a written one. Packing is stressful guys. Oh, I already said that in my last post but I just have to state it again, for the culture. Clothes This was not as boring as I had anticipated. Probably because I did it at night and many boxes were checked (pun unintended!). It was 10pm, I had just finished seeing a movie, there was light, I'm naturally a night owl. Check, check. I'm definitely not here to talk about folding and categorizing clothes so, there's not much to talk about. What lesson(s) did I learn? Well, bracing the odds of going ahead with packing my clothes instead of lazing in bed and on social media that night made me realize and relearn that if you ever get the urge to do something in a particular moment, then you should do it. Someone pops i...

A Year Older||Happy Birthday To Me!

No, writing exams isn't going to stop me from putting up an obligatory, not so obligatory birthday post on here. You know why? Because I'm typing this as early as March 4th, 10 days before my birthday. Not really because it's a do or die affair, but because I'm en route and I think this is the best way to keep myself busy and awake while traveling. I'm hoping I get to make this super short. This year, I really wanted something different and I wasn't going to wait for anyone to do that for me. Let's just say I had an epiphany and decided that irrespective of how busy the weekend before my birthday week is going to be, I'd like to glam up and take pictures. Of course, the fact that it is the weekend before I start my final exams is enough to discourage me and make me think of a different thing to do but when I realized that 1. I would be writing an exam on my birthday after having written two the day before and being who I am, I'd pr...

5 (+1) Practical Ways to Deal with a Jet Lag

For some reason, I can remember the very first time I came across the term 'jet lag'. It was in the pages of a book and it stuck because the main character made her business thrive by making sure her prospective overseas business partners did not have a chance to get over their jetlag before she hit them with all her ideas and so they were often too tired to counter her words and say no to her. This 'strategy' actually worked for her all time, no way it wouldn't have stuck.  Apparently, jet lag occurs with rapid travel across time zones, resulting in a disruption between the timing of body’s "internal clock" (circadian rhythms) and that of the external physical environment. Basically, it is some sort of temporary sleep disorder that occurs after a long flight. Often characterized by confusion, lack of awareness, fatigue, insomnia, indigestion and loss of appetite, it is no surprise that the author of that book figured it would make a good natural tool to...

A Mini Life Update

There's no such thing as a perfect comeback post especially when the comeback is not a thorough one. I mean, there would still be a couple of other comeback posts so why does this one have to be perfect? I've been thinking more about my blog these past few days because of two reasons which isn't a surprise if I'm being logical. I mean, the hosting company I use has started with the heartbreaking emails intended to notify me of the upcoming renewal of my blog's domain. This equals a saddening debit alert and there's no way, absolutely no way that won't make me think about how much I have abandoned and neglected this webspace of mine and wonder if I should just cancel the renewal. Just because. The second reason is that I'm finally on school break and so I have a little more time on my hands. This means I've been feeling guilty a lot more for not spending my free time on my blog and also thinking about life after school a lot more. My last post here ...

A Literary Conversation|APRIL

It lowkey sucks that the only thing I'm consistent with on the blog now is the monthly literary conversation. I'm however trying hard to not dwell too much on this sad fact. Anyway, happy new month to you! April was a fun month. I was really hoping for a better month because like I said HERE , March wasn't all that good. Well, I guess I got that. On the school front, I finally resumed after about 8 months of being away from school because of my 6 months industrial training. I'm in my final year now and I'm mentally trying to prepare for all of the inevitable stress and working on how I won't let myself be overwhelmed. You should already guess that resuming means I have less time to spend on my reading but I still read almost all of it. 1. Stay With Me - Ayobami Adebayo If you follow me on Instagram ( Right here ) , then you would have seen me put up a picture of this book and a picture of this book and myself. I think I talked about it so much that ...

Life Update: 2018 Birthday Post

I was unsure about the idea of writing a birthday post this year because it's not very timely till I checked the posts of the last 2 years - 2016  and 2017 - and I realized they both went up on the 17th of March, 3 days after my birthday so why not continue the trend? Unlike the previous years, this was quite uneventful as I was in transit for some time, traveling to school to get stuff submitted and then rounding everything off pretty late so that I was unable to travel back home that same day. I had no extra clothing or toiletries so that was annoying but I pulled through nevertheless. I have a ritual of getting myself something but so far, I've not really seen what I'm interested in. A God sent person got me a book I've been looking to get my hands on for quite some time now and I was too happyyy! I'm definitely going to update this post with pictures of it later on. I'm really excited and looking forward to all what God has in store for me thi...

A Literary Conversation | FEBRUARY

Don't you just love how February flew by quickly? I definitely do and it came with lots of fun and of course, reading.. It feels just like yesterday when I published this POST  on the books I read in January and now it's time to write about the ones in February. As there's only 28 days in February, I actually thought I'd be able to complete only 3 books but I'm typing this on the 26th day and I was able to go through 5 books! It however isn't in the numbers but in how each book eventually makes one a better person. Enough digression, I initially planned to read mature romance novels because month of love but after the way the first book I read made me feel, I changed course immediately and went on to read other genres touching topics ranging from racism, colonialism to holocaust stories to a young adult medical fiction and even a children's storybook! 1. STILL ME - Jojo Moyes If you've seen the movie 'Me Before You' or read the book, ...
